Dermal filler products are used to treat wrinkles and lines on the face. They give a particularly good result when used to treat the lines which run between the edge of the nose and the corner of the mouth (nasolabial lines). They can also be used to treat other lines on the face and to enhance the lip margins and increase the volume of the body of the lips.

Dr Dobson uses Restylane products. These have an excellent safety record, give consistent results and are non-animal based. The Restylane range contains hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a natural component of skin and give it the firm texture seen in youth.

Treatments

Sclerotherapy is the treatment of unsightly leg veins by injection. The fluid injected into the vein causes it to block and collapse meaning that blood cannot flow through it anymore. Don’t worry this is not dangerous, the blood simply flows through other veins which are deeper in the skin and which cannot be seen.

The treatment is very effective and can result in a dramatic improvement in patches of thread veins on the legs. The treatment is long lasting and safe.

Sclerotherapy

 
Sculptra is a long chain molecule made of lactic acid (a natural body constituent) the product is injected under the skin of the face (under local anaesthetic cover) and causes a irritant reaction to the fibroblast cells (collagen generating) in the skin. The fibroblasts consider this stimulation as a signal to begin producing more collagen and so the skins thickness and quality is improved adding volume and lift to the face.

Sculptra requires several treatments separated by 4-6 weeks but produces a long lasting (2-3 years) and natural looking appearance to the face.

Facial peels using acidic compounds cause the separation of the upper layers of the skin and induce a peeling which can last up to several days, depending on the strength of the peel. The new skin below is fresher and brighter. Chemical peels are able to give the skin a smoother more healthy appearance and reduce fine lines and wrinkles as well as improve irregular pigmentation caused by sun damage.

Dr Dobson will advise you if chemical peeling is right for you and which type of peel would be best.

Botulinum toxin (“Botox”) treatments are probably the most popular non surgical cosmetic treatment in the world. The toxin is injected under the skin of the face most commonly to relax the muscles of facial expression which cause frown lines, wrinkles and “crows feet” around the eye area, the brow and the area between the eyes.

Botulinum toxin can also be used to treat other areas including down turning of the corner of the mouth and “stringy lines” in the neck.

The toxin can also be used to reduce sweating under the arms, the hands and the feet.

Medical microdermabrasion should not be confused with the treatment which you receive at you local beauty salon. True medical microdermabrasion is a very effective and very successful method of treating abnormal skin pigmentation, flaking, irregularity in thickness and even fine lines and wrinkles.

The treatment involves drawing small granules over the surface of the skin very quickly. This works in a way very similar to “sand blasting” buildings. The top layers of the skin are removed, exposing a fresh, smooth and healthy looking skin. This treatment is often carried out in addition to or as a preparation for other treatments.
